Basics, basics, basics! The key to any great wardrobe, you already guessed it – it’s basics.

A classic khaki green pair of pants in a modern cut paired with a basic long sleeve tee is easy to wear, comfortable and when you add some great accessories you can’t go wrong! I’m a sucker for great earrings & a cute neck scarf. Done and done.

Sizing note on the pants: These are the straight leg, cropped pants from Everlane. I typically a size 6 or 28. I can wear these in a 4 or 6. If you are between sizes, size down.

Same pants. Same boots. Different shirt. Totally new look. I got this NotPerfectLinen tee secondhand. I’m wearing a size large for an oversized, relaxed fit. I love the mix of masculine and feminine touches in this outfit.

Sometimes the unexpected outfits turn out to be the best! A skirt with a sweater? Why not? Tuck that sweater in? Even better!

Tip: This skirt is organic cotton. Cotton leggings would cling to the skirt and annoy me all day long! That’s why I’m wearing thick footless tights instead. They are every bit as comfy, but they look way better.

Same sweater. Same boots. Different pants. New earrings. I feel like there’s a pattern going on here. Ha! This sweater is a favorite and it looks good with everything!

I work from home and I have 4 kids, so I don’t need to dress up very often, but I still like to get dressed most days. In cooler weather, I wear jeans A. LOT. I get sick of it.

To keep things fresh I have a few different cuts and styles. When I can’t bear one more day of skinnies I pull out the wide legs and yes, I’m still tucking the sweater in. I love the look of a front tuck.

Same wide-leg jeans. Different tee. Add a belt! I’m always amazed at how much a simple belt can add. I’m super into wearing belts lately. Tucking the graphic tee, plus the accessories are what make this basic outfit work.

High Rise Jeans
Thea Flats

Feeling brave yet? Try a monochromatic look! I think almost everyone has some version of a basic striped tee in their wardrobe. Skip the blue jeans and try something tone on tone. It’s clean, crisp and can easily be adapted for any season/weather.

If so much of one color doesn’t feel right to you, try this instead! Pair a patterned top with bottoms that are the same tone as one of the colors in the pattern.

I love how the mustard stripe in this oversized sweater pulls the brown in the boots. And you can’t go wrong with great statement earrings. The colors are all different, but they go together and turn basics into a great outfit.
