This week we are donating all of our profit to hurricane relief through @samaritanspurse. Any purchases made October 13-19, 2024 will go towards this cause.

I was talking with a friend in the non-profit worl

I was talking with a friend in the non-profit world about the devastating choices women often make for themselves and their children. What drives them to such desperation?

She talked about a little girl who came across our border alone because she and her mom were kidnapped by gangs. Her mom told the girl if she had an opportunity to run away to go and leave her behind.

What has to happen to a woman to make her willing to make such a treacherous journey alone with a little girl? What happened in their home country? What is the root cause of this?

Obviously I don’t know the answers. The conversation moved to what can happen to girls in the dark when parents can’t be around because the are working to survive. We were both beside ourselves and it reminded us that our part to play in this huge global issue is to do what we can do provide safe jobs for women and a marketplace to sell their goods.

Whether it’s 5 women or 5,000 women who can live in their own community safely and not fear for their family’s survival every bit of this work matters.

This friend and I don’t do this work alone. We aren’t heroes. We are simply using what we have to lead others in being generous and caring for the poor. You are on our team and I am humbled by your trust in me and in the work Sela is doing.

Thank you for playing your part. May we all feel encouraged that our labor is never in vain. It’s more than cute earrings. It’s a life and we get to be a small part of redemption stories. That’s beautiful work.
