How To Wear Trousers From Work to Weekend

Trousers are a workwear staple, but what if you have to go from work to the soccer field? If you want to keep your closet lean, practice sustainable consumerism and learn how to start a capsule wardrobe, it’s essential to wear the same pieces you love on repeat. Here are 5 easy ways to wear trousers from work to weekend.

1. Black Trousers for Work

First off, these black trousers are from a new to me slow fashion company, Parallel 51. Parallel 51 makes high quality, capsule collections for any occasion. The code SELA15 saves you 15% sitewide.

Their sizing is a little different, but I found the size chart is accurate. I’m wearing size 3, which is equivalent to a US size 6. I recommend sizing up for a more relaxed look or looser fit in the waist. I love the super high waist and pleats – very flattering in the midsection. The tie is removable, which you’ll see below.

For work, I paired the trousers with a square neck bodysuit and heeled booties. I kept the accessories consistent with the neutral, classy look – a gold choker and statement earrings in a bold, but neutral print.

2. Classic black & white

Does it get anymore classic than black pants and a white button up? Probably not. What makes this workwear outfit feel modern are the details ( soft dolman wide hemmed sleeve, pleats and belted bottoms) and cuts (boxy top, cropped, straight leg bottoms) of each piece, plus the accessories (earrings, necklace & booties).

Another reason to love the pleats – an oversized white button up is easily tucked in and you can’t see any bunching or extra fabric. I’m not kidding when I say they cover so much!

3. Trousers for Date Night

This might be my favorite look of them all. The buttons on this cami are the sweestest detail. Not a fan of strapless bras? Try these.

The best part? Add a jacket and black pumps for work and easily switch in the car to go straight from work to a date night or girls night. An all black look is always in style.

4. Trouser for Mom Life

How many times have you gone straight from work to the soccer field or basketball game? Maybe it’s a kid’s birthday party or gymnastics. If you’re a working mom chances are it happens a lot. I’m not big on wearing heels to sports events so this is how I make the transition:

Ditch the belt and switch from heels to sneakers. Wear a classic striped tee all day with a jacket over and swap it for denim later. Add earrings in a fun pop of color, totally work appropriate and also perfect for the soccer game. Want to wear your team’s colors, this is how I would do it. Quick, simple swaps that can take you from the office to the game in 60 seconds or less.

5. Take me to the weekend

If you have a great pair of trousers you love why not wear them for every occasion? After all, that’s a huge part of switching to a slow, sustainable wardrobe.

Same pants, classic white tee (buy a quality tee in a cut that’s flattering on you and wear it for everything), a great sun hat, summer statement earrings and sandals. This summer look is great for any weekend event from brunch to a wedding shower or the family reunion.

The trick to a small wardrobe and wearing the same pieces over and over is in the accessories. The hat, earrings and sandals make this outfit feel totally different than the black and white workwear outfit above.

6. Bonus Black Trouser Outfit

I couldn’t resist just one more look. This wrap top can be worn so many ways! It’s another great versatile piece to have in your wardrobe. Here I styled it backwards: business in the front, party in the back (come on, you know you love it)!

This is a combination I would wear for so many different things: work, date night, church, dinner with friends, or a party. Would you wear this one?
