The Best Ethical White Tee that’s also Budget Friendly

One of the most common questions women ask me is “where do I find a good white tee that isn’t see-through and doesn’t cost a crazy amount???” I have searched around, tried a bunch, and now have come to some conclusions on the best ethical white tee that’s also budget-friendly!

The basic white tee is essential in every wardrobe. It’s classic, it works when nothing else does, it’s a staple! But finding the perfect one is tricky. We all have our own version of perfect. My version of perfect for my 5’7″, long torso self is not the same as the 5’2″ petite woman next door. So what’s a girl to do? Well, first I found the perfect white tee and then I bought every style so you can see which one is best for you!

What makes it the best white tee?

It’s important to know what I was looking for in the perfect white tee. Beyond affordability, my top three things were: not see-through (very important to me), overall quality, and fit (long enough, not too stretchy).

I have found Fair Indigo tees to be the best ethical tees overall, let me explain. Nearly all Fair Indigo Tees are made of 95% organic pima cotton & 5% spandex. That means they are incredibly soft and have some stretch. They also don’t suction to your body (that’s a heck-no in my book).

Pricepoint: these tees are all 2 for $70. Plus, if you use the code SELA15 you save an additional 15% off. That makes them under $30 each, which is very budget-friendly for an ethically made, high-quality tee.

The length is great for my long torso & small bust. It also works for others with a short torso and larger bust. They tuck perfectly. Also, just go ahead and try to see through it, I dare you. These tees are the perfect weight and are NOT shear. Now for the fit: I’ll show you 3 options in white wearing my usual size small, plus a bonus at the end of some other colors available in different sizes.

Spoiler alert: these tees work TTS or sized up for a relaxed fit.

V-Neck

Let’s start with the most classic option: the v-neck. I love that this V isn’t too low cut. I’m a mom of 4 and flashing the kids at the park is never my idea of a good time, you know?

The fit is slightly tapered at the natural waist so it has some shape. Untucked it has plenty of length and sits mid-hip. It is TTS. I’m wearing a small.

Scoop Neck

The Scoop Neck tee is Fair Indigo’s best seller and universally flattering (for good reason). I’ve had this tee for a year and a half (the others are brand new). It still looks new and has held it’s shape perfectly despite my husband accidentally putting it in the dryer a few times (I don’t like my clothes dried).

The scoop neck tee feels slightly more fitted in the waist that the v-neck. I love that. Other than the waist, the only difference is the neckline. Also wearing a small in the scoop neck and find this style to fit TTS.

Because I already had the scoop neck tee in my usual size small, I also wanted to try it in medium to see how it fit. Here’s a photo of the Fatigue color – it’s a beautiful olive green and I think it looks better in person that on the website. I don’t think you can go wrong with the Scoop Neck style either in your usual size or sized up.

Drumroll please: I started down this adventurous road not only to help you, but also because I wanted the perfect, basic, relaxed white tee. And I’m happy to announce I’ve found it.

I already had the scoop neck tee, but I wanted something more casual and with a straight fit. The Relaxed Crew neck is exactly what I hoped for. The cut is straight through the body and it has a little more length the the other two tees.

As soon as I put this tee on I didn’t want to ever take it off. If I could only have one white tee for this season of life this one is the winner. And bonus: here it is in stripes and a size up for a relaxed look:

And because I was trying all the tees I decided even though it doesn’t come in white, I’d test out the Relaxed Pocket tee too! So here it is in Stone Green (a much softer green than the Fatigue). I’m wearing a small. It’s more snug in the shoulders than the other tees and is 100% organic cotton, so doesn’t have the same stretch!
